The Environment Agency byelaws are statutory rules and regulations intended to protect migratory and freshwater fish stocks, as well as fisheries. They set out when and where you can fish, how you can fish, and what fish you can take.

Anyone fishing with rod and line in England and Wales must hold a rod fishing licence and comply with the byelaws that cover the waters where they are fishing.

All club members should download and familiarise themselves with this document below. It is not a legal interpretation, but provides a layman’s guide, and failing to comply with the byelaws could lead to prosecution and a significant fine.
