Anglers Monitoring Initiative ‘Bug Hunting’

February 8, 2012

Tewin Flyfishing Club has been participating in this scheme since 2008. We are currently sampling the river Mimram approximately every two months. To participate members have to attend a training course and we have been very fortunate to be able to attend courses hosted by Mike Palmer, Secretary of Willowbrook Flyfishers at Fotheringay nearPeterborough. Trained club members currently are Chris Mungovan, Richard Burdon-Cooper, Tony Langford, Pauline Field and Derek Coldham. Sampling, counting and recording takes between 1-2 hours on each occasion and it is always interesting as just 3 minutes of ‘bug-hunting’ always produces a veritable soup of fish food most of which is smaller than your average artificial nymph or fly.

The Environment Agency have produced a report on our activity and have given permission for it to be included on our web-page. Follow our Bug Hunting link on the main menu for information, photos and the EA report.
