Trout Redds and Wading

February 25, 2007
This winter the Environment Agency carried out a trout redd count and identified nine redds. The main area was the gravel shallows for about 75 yards downstream of the ornamental bridge. It is important that this area is not disturbed or the redds and adjacent areas damaged by wading as not only do the eggs remain in the gravel but also the alevins when they hatch from the eggs. We do not have rules against wading nor do we want more rules. The most important period is probably between January and April so please do refrain from wading in the shallows at  this time.
