Mayfly Hatch

June 5, 2006
Excellent hatch of large mayfly yesterday. From 3-9pm large white and black mayflies with a 2″ wing span were flying to and fro over the length of the river. Sections of the river that at 2pm seemed devoid of fish came to life with splashy rises abundant. Connecting with these eager fish was challenging to put it mildly. Flies that looked most like the hatch in terms of size and colour were ignored. Dry, winged, gold ribbed hare’s ear eventually produced takes most of which did not connect despite looking good. I managed to catch two browns but should it have been more? CM.
